Master of Science in Computer and Information Engineering

Master of Science in Computer and Information Engineering (MSc. CIE) is a two-year full-time programme offered by the School of Science and Engineering of the CUHK-Shenzhen revolving around the area of computer science and information engineering. The programme aims to equip students with essential knowledge and skills that enable them to develop and implement solutions to with a wide coverage of emerging technology such as AI, AI chips and applications, computer science, advanced machine learning, blockchain and metaverse. Graduates will learn the fundamental theory and have chance to complete research projects demonstrating that they can use the fundamental concepts to solve problems in various computer and information engineering applications. The programme is committed to cultivating high-quality professionals with a solid theoretical foundation, outstanding innovation capabilities and international competitiveness to meet the increasing demand for skilled computer and information engineering professionals in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the whole country.

Curriculum Advantages: The course covers basic theoretical knowledge and cutting-edge technologies in the fields of computer science and information engineering, fully integrating software and hardware, and focusing on the latest cutting-edge technologies in artificial intelligence, including but not limited to artificial intelligence chips and algorithm applications, metaverse and industrial vision, Web3.0 and blockchain computing.

Faculty: The faculty of MSc. CIE, including several IEEE Fellows, have all studied or taught in internationally renowned universities. Therefore, students are allowed to access research guidance from leading international scholars.

Career and further study: In terms of employment, graduates of the Computer and Information Engineering major are in high demand in all walks of life in digital transformation due to their technical expertise. They can engage in a variety of technical positions such as software/hardware development, AI chip development, network security, artificial intelligence, etc., with a wide range of career choices and global employment opportunities. In addition, the rapid development of this field ensures continued salary growth and career development possibilities.

In terms of further studies, graduates of this major can directly apply for the doctoral programme in computer and information engineering offered by the School of Science and Engineering of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, as well as related doctoral programmes of top universities and research institutions around the world, providing students with broad academic research space and international cooperation opportunities.

Geographical Advantages: Located in Shenzhen, a hub of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the programme provides rich internship opportunities with Huawei, Tencent, Ping An, DJI, and other well-known enterprises.

Application Requirements

1. Education Background Requirements:

· Graduated from a recognised university and obtained a bachelor’s degree, normally with honours not lower than Second Class or achieving an average grade of not lower than “B”; or

· Completed a course of study in a tertiary educational institution and obtained professional or similar qualifications equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.

2. English Language Requirements for Admission:

· TOEFL: 550 (Paper-based)/79 (Internet-based/Home Edition);

· IELTS (Academic): 6.5 (Test Centre based/Online); or

· GMAT: Band 21 (Verbal); or

· GMAT Focus Edition: Band 78 (Verbal); or

· Taken a degree programme of which the medium of instruction was English (The University may require applicants to provide supporting documents); or

· Obtained a recognized professional qualification, provided that the examination was conducted in English.

Note: TOEFL and IELTS scores are considered valid for two years from the test date. GMAT scores are considered valid for five years from the test date.

6. Scanned copy of ID card or other valid identification (Applicants from Mainland China are required to use an ID card for the application, as other forms of identification will not be accepted for student status registration by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. Non-Mainland Chinese applicants should apply using their valid identification.)

7. Scanned copy of certificates of academic/professional qualifications (e.g., university certificate of graduation, examination certificates and other qualifications.)

8. Transcript of Academic Record (Official document with official seal from the Academic Affairs Office indicating all courses taken and the corresponding grades. If the transcript does not indicate the overall GPA or grading system, a separate document certifying the GPA is required. In Chinese or English, with the official seal of the undergraduate institution.)
